Indian team bows out of mixed recurve
India did not have the same fortunes in recurve. The second seeded mixed team of Atanu Das and Deepika Kumari faltered in the quarter-finals to bow out of the event without any medal. The two began with a bang when they blanked Hong Kong 6-0. But it was in the very next round that they were edged by Mongolia 4-5(18-20).
Both the Indian men’s and women’s recurve teams advanced to the quarter-finals. In men’s individual recurve, Jayanta Talukdar meets his compatriot, Yashdev in the Round of 32. Third seeded Atanu Das too is in the same round after a couple of byes while Gaurav Trambak Lambe exited the competition.
In women’s, former World No. 1 Deepika Kumari meets her countrywoman Ankita Bhagat for a place in the last-16. Promila Daimary and Monika Saren too progressed into the same round.
22 archers from India have participated in this tournament which is the biggest archery event hosted in Asia. It began in Kolkata in 1980 and is held every two years since 1997. At the last edition in Bangkok, India bagged three gold medals in the compound archery section.
Rajat Chauhan and Jyothi Surekha Vennam triumphed in the men’s and women’s individual categories with the men’s team adding the third gold for India. The 2017 event concludes on November 30.
