Chennai, September 9: Raghul Rangasamy, hailing from the nearby temple town of Mamallapuram, emerged champion in the coveted MRF Formula 1600 category as the MRF MMSC fmsci Indian National Racing Championship 2018 concluded at the MMRT, here on Sunday. The title earned Rangasamy a ticket to this year’s Mazda Road To Indy shootout in the United States, a dream that the 25-year old pursued through the season. With three podium finishes this weekend, Rangasamy, who led Goutham Parekh (Chennai) by 11 points at the start of the final round, did just enough to clinch the championship....

India reduced the hosts to 88/4 at lunch and in the second session, Ashwin continued his great show by picking four more wickets as the West Indies surrendered without any fight on the opening day. The 29-year-old’s 18th five-wicket haul included the dismissals of Jermaine Blackwood (62), Marlon Samuels (37), Shane Dowrich (5), Jason Holder (13) and Devendra Bishoo (12). This time the format of the tournament has changed a bit as teams are divided into 2 groups of three each from which top two teams will qualify for the Super Four round. All teams will play each other once in the Super Four rounds and the top two teams will then play the final on 28 September 2018....

Some might argue that it was best to rest Virat for the Asia Cup as youngsters like KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, will get a chance to perform and showcase their talent. Players like Dinesh Karthik, Ambati Raydu and Kedar Jadhav will get more overs to bat and confirm their middle order position in the side before the world cup next year. Virat and company had a long tour of England which started in late June and will get over on 11th September....

Another couple of surprises came our way during the Women’s 25m Pistol event. The first one was the elimination of Manu Bhaker. Bhaker had been superb during the qualifying process, setting a new qualifying Games Record in the process. Going into the final, the 16-year-old was the favourite to win the Gold medal. However, much to everybody’s shock, the youngster finished sixth. The second surprise that came our way was a good one....
